Winner: State Heritage Award for Conservation of a Registered Place (2018)

The Gwalia headframe restoration was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to revive a historical landmark in WA’s South West.

Constructive PD was awarded the $1.5 million contract to restore the Sons of Gwalia headframe in the Shire of Leonora.

The job was massive, with the CPD Regional Team and ENGenuity Engineers replacing decaying Oregon wood with Karri timber from WA’s South West. The rebuild will maintain the heritage structure for up to fifty years.

Used to haul miners and gold from the underground, the Gwalia headframe is the last of its kind in Australia and one of few remaining worldwide. Partly funded by grants from the State and Federal governments, the Shire of Leonora hired Constructive PD’s regional team to deliver the historic rebuild.

Five months went into comprehensively planning and delivering the heritage restoration to ensure the integrity of the structure was maintained. The CPD Regional team working on the project utilised their skills and expertise in engineering and timber-craft to successfully restore a landmark structure.
